HAS ZACK SNYDER OFFICIALLY AGREED TO DIRECT ‘JUSTICE LEAGUE?’
There have been rumors that ‘Man of Steel‘ director Zack Snyder and Ruben Fleischer (‘Zombieland’) were frontrunners to direct Warner Bros. planned ‘Justice League‘ movie. Today, we spoke with Fleischer about those rumors and asked about whether he still has his eyes set on ‘Justice League’ he revealed he’s no longer in the running. And why? Because he says Snyder already has the job.
As the ‘Man of Steel’ buzz gets stronger and stronger, it shouldn’t be surprising that Warner Bros. is looking for Snyder to return and direct the ‘Justice League’ movie. Up until now, Synder has issued a curt “no comment” whenever asked about the reports but it looks like Fleischer – Snyder’s friend and fellow candidate for the ‘Justice League’ gig – may have outed him.
Fleischer is out promoting ‘Gangster Squad‘ (which hits DVD and Blu-ray on April 23) and we asked if he was still interested in directing ‘Justice League’ after his name was on the shortlist of directors last year. He said he’s definitely interested in directing a big superhero film but it wasn’t going to be ‘Justice League.’ And why not? Says Fleischer:
Well that’s something that Zack Snyder is going to wind up doing.
Now it’s possible that Fleischer is just speculating or basing this on something he read on the internet but a) he and Snyder are friends and b) Fleischer worked with ‘Justice League’ writer Will Beall on ‘Gangster Squad’ so there’s a very good chance he’s in the know. Also, we can’t believe a director would take himself out of the running for a big superhero film based off a rumor he read on the internet.
We reached out to Snyder’s reps for comment and have yet to hear back.
If ‘Man of Steel’ is as good as we’ve heard (and we’ve heard it is indeed very good), then keeping Snyder in the fold would be a smart move for Warner Bros.
